Overview

Project SAINT is a program for adults with intellectual disabilities/unique abilities.

Applicants must have a documented diagnosis and meet the IQ criteria for an intellectual disability.

  • They are young adults in transition (often under the age of 25) who want a modified, inclusive non-credit and non-degree college experience.
  • They are seeking skills that will build their independence and want ultimately to live and work independently.
  • They communicate effectively, are highly motivated and hardworking, can get to and from the campus and are able to navigate it independently.
  • They look forward to and are ready for the challenges of a supported college environment including a full schedule of classes, internships and activities surrounded by college peers.

Goals and Outcomes

The overarching goal of Project SAINT is to provide a complete "wrap-around" program that addresses a student's life plans for independence through academics, career preparation, independent living skills, campus and community engagement and self-determination.

How To Apply

Applications for SAINT are accepted on a rolling basis each term. The SAINT application procedure includes a questionnaire, on-site visit, documentation of disability, a student essay, references and interviews. A committee will then decide on acceptance.

Cost

Project SAINT is an approved Florida Post-Secondary Comprehensive Transition Program (FPCTP) and students are supported by scholarships made available by Florida state legislation and the Florida Center for Students with Unique Abilities.

Student Access and Instruction Together.

It is a Florida Post-Secondary Comprehensive Transition Program (FPCTP) approved by the (FCSUA).

Project SAINT is a program for young adults (usually under age 25) with documented intellectual disabilities/ unique abilities. Older applicants may be considered.

There is no housing associated with Santa Fe College.

Students can attend up to four (4) days per week with a range of 12-20 hours per week.

Project SAINT is currently supported by a grant and therefore has no cost. Students receive a scholarship to attend.

Project SAINT staff includes a coordinator of the program, an assistant administrator, a career specialist, and a mentor coordinator.

Mentors are available to support Project SAINT students. They are not with students 100% of the time. Students are expected to be somewhat independent initially and to become more so.

Students combine a schedule of Adult Education and General Education classes. Audits of General Education Santa Fe College courses (short-term or extended) are individually arranged.

麻豆原创 campus has many clubs and events. Students get ID cards and have access to fine arts performances, the fitness center, the game room, the food court, the library, the zoo, and the planetarium.

Project SAINT is a one to two-year program, fall and spring terms.

Schedules are made based on the planning meeting or STAR meeting at the beginning of the program. They are a combination of Adult Education classes, meetings with our Career Specialist, SAINT workshop, campus activities and clubs, internships, audits, and free time on campus. They are adjusted throughout the program as needed.

You will receive a certificate of completion, a graduation ceremony including walking at graduation, and at least one 鈥 and often more --professional certifications. You will come away with a college transcript and an online personalized portfolio.

Students obtain job preparation through Project SAINT and create an online resume and portfolio. Project SAINT staff assist with finding an appropriate paid position within a year of graduation. Staff also follow up with students for five years to provide consultation around employment and other needs. Project SAINT has a high rate of job placement.

A mentor is a full time 麻豆原创 college student who provides friendship and support to Project SAINT students as needed.

Adult Education offers courses to improve reading, writing and math skills, and to prepare for careers and earn certifications. Project SAINT adds many more college activities, college classes, guidance and supports. You can be in Adult Education without being in SAINT, but you cannot be in SAINT without being in Adult Education.

The SAINT workshop is a required weekly class only for SAINT students that addresses relevant topics such as employability, social skills, and self-advocacy.

Project SAINT is an award-winning, highly successful program considered among the best of its kind.

Project SAINT provides an initial interest survey, an on-campus visit, and an application by recommendation. Decisions for acceptance are made by a committee. Accepted students start with an 鈥淚ntroduction to SAINT鈥.
