Â鶹ԭ´´ BASKETBALL – 12/17/2012

Gainesville, FL – It was slow going for both teams for the first fourteen minutes of Monday nights game between Santa Fe and St. Petersburg College, but a run by the Saints that carried over into the second half was the spark Â鶹ԭ´´ needed for an 87-68 win.

"I was pleased with our effort tonight against a team that I consider to be very good," said Â鶹ԭ´´ Coach Chris Mowry. "Before the game we talked about three key points to the game: stopping their transition offense, boxing out, and playing as hard as they do. We hit all three."

Santa Fe (7-8) trailed 18-14 with six minutes to go in the first period but turned the tide quickly thanks to six points by Roody Saint-Germain and two three pointers by Chad Milliken to give Â鶹ԭ´´ a 33-25 halftime lead.

St. Pete came out hot right out of the gates in the second half scoring four quick points to cut the margin to 33-29. From there it was all Saints. Leading scorer Bobby Hunter nailed a deep three pointer to spark an 8-0 run punctuated by a thunderous put back dunk by Jordan Banks to give Santa Fe a 41-29 lead.

The Saints put the petal to the metal and outscored the Titans 29-12 from the 16:30 mark to 8:46 to blow the game open. St. Pete managed to cut into the lead over the last few minutes, but it was too little too late as Â鶹ԭ´´ cruised to their seventh win of the season.

Bobby Hunter led the way once again with a 27 point effort, including 7-for-7 from the free throw line. Roody Saint-Germain pitched in a career high 18 and Chad Milliken scored 18, all on three pointers. Â鶹ԭ´´ outrebounded The Titans 43-30 and forced 18 turnovers.

"This was a great all around effort by all of our guys," said Mowry. "We were unselfish, took good shots and hit our free throws. This was a solid win and a good way to head into break."

The Saints will take a few weeks off before returning to action at home on January 3 against Georgia Highlands College.
