Â鶹ԭ´´ to host crisis intervention training for law enforcement

July 24, 2025

Santa Fe College will be host to area law enforcement personnel participating in Crisis Intervention Team professional development, provided by the Alachua County Crisis Center Monday, July 28 – Friday, August 1.

Activity will take place on the Northwest Campus in Building B, the adjacent parking lot and other areas outside.

The intensive, 40-hour program provides best practices in recognition and interaction with individuals with mental illnesses, those with substance abuse problems and other vulnerable populations.  It utilizes safe role play scenarios and site visits to facilities.

Instead of confronting and arresting a person who shows signs of emotional distress, Crisis Intervention Team trained members have more options to help with the situation and direct the person into treatment instead of jail.

The Santa Fe College Police Department was the first agency in the region to have all their sworn members complete this training and have new staff attend as soon as the class is offered. Two Â鶹ԭ´´PD officers will participate next week.
